# Connect a phone number

> Get your assistant answering real calls.

Qall doesn't sell numbers. You bring your own, either from a SIP carrier or from
a Twilio account, and point them at an assistant.

<Steps>
  <Step title="Connect your carrier">
    Open **Phone Numbers** and add a connection.

    **Twilio** — enter your Account SID and auth token. Qall sets up the trunk and
    pulls in your numbers.

    **Any SIP carrier** — enter your gateway host and credentials. See
    [Phone numbers](/phone-numbers) for the full field list.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Choose your numbers">
    Pick which of the account's numbers Qall should manage. The rest are left
    alone.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Point a number at an assistant">
    Assign the number to the assistant that should answer it. One number, one
    assistant.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Call it">
    Ring the number. Your assistant picks up, and the call appears under
    **Calls** with everything recorded.
  </Step>
</Steps>

## Calling out

To have an assistant call someone, you need a number to call *from*. The same
connection covers it.

Then either [run a campaign](/campaigns) to work through a list, or
place single calls from the API.
